Teaching Math 5HBC: LAC2013 Complete!

Fare thee well, my Seniors, you will be missed!

A couple of weeks ago, we started our "Life After Calculus 2013" final project. We focused on loose ends that I think should be in BC Calculus: Euler's Identity, Second Order DiffEqus, Hooke's Law, Air Resistance and Power Series Solutions! I used to cover Simultaneous DiffEqus with Slope Fields modeling competing populations during LAC, but I covered that earlier in the year this year.

Last week we ScreenCasted how to learn Calculus with SAGE! We ran out of time. So, I will continue UNIT3-UNIT12 at a later date. I'm preparing these Calculus Units on SAGE for a presentation at T^3 Molloy College 11/1/13. 

My Summer Project will include finishing UNITS 3-12 for my T^3 presentation at Molloy College next year. I will also update my EBay store with electronic copy on CD only based on this project! Stay tuned...

Teaching Math 5HBC: AP Week II! 

We finished our AP Math Movie Marathon and started our final project! We watched "Stand and Deliver" last weel and "Proof" this week. Now, Life After Calculus (LAC2013) begins with Euler's Identity! 

We will use the identity and hyperbolic trig to solve second order DiffEqus with and without Air Resistance. Then we'll see how we could learn AB and BC Calculus using SAGE (for my Molloy presentation in November).

Teaching Math 5HBC: Unit 12 Vector/Polar! 

AP Calculus BC started Unit 12, our last unit, this week. Unit 12 started with a discussion of vectors and parametric notation. Then we talked about polar graphs. We calculated polar area using a Riemann argument based on circular sectors. We also found dy/dx converting from vector to parametric mode! We have only one topic left: polar arc length using paramtrics!

We will review an old MCQ Monday BC Part IB next week! This is part of the Final Exam for the preTEST/postTEST model of the new Teacher Evaluation System!

AP Calculus BC started Unit 11 the week before break (3/18/13-3/22/13) and finished it this week after break (4/1/13-4/5/13). Unit 11 started with a discussion of MacLaurin Series and The Ratio Test for Absolute Convergence of Power Series. Then we talked about the Alternating Series Test, Taylor Series and LaGrange Error Terms!

We will have a new MCQ Monday BC Part IB next week! This will be part of the Final Exam for the preTEST/postTEST model of the new Teacher Evaluation System!

AP Calculus BC continued Unit 8 this week. We talked about Trig Sub and Partial Fractions. So now we know how to integrate anything that has an algebraic closed form antiderivative! Next we will apply our vast knowledge of integration to solve DiffEqus.

We will have a new MCQ Monday BC Part IA in 2 weeks as we are off this Monday for Presidents' Day! We lost this February Break due to Hurricane Sandy!
